Junior Back-End Engineer

Scala/Java

You will be responsible for making not only the search or notification engine work, but in fact you’ll be THE person behind the entire MeStudent engine. We are data and customer driven and you’re the tech mind who will help define the vision for our product.

CRACOW, POLAND / KATOWICE, POLAND

What you’ll do:

  • work with an international team on building our innovative search platform that will be seen and used by hundreds of users everyday
  • write clean, portable and well-documented code
  • design and architect components with focus on performance and scalability of distributed services and systems and underlying search engine(s)
  • ensure high availability of the platforms through systems and infrastructure engineering
  • implement advanced search features such as language detection, spell check, auto suggest/correct and more
  • continually improve and enhance search quality and web search infrastructure and performance
  • partner with product managers to refine and prioritize requirements, estimate and set the work scope and time releases.

What we're expecting:

  • 2+ years’ experience building web apps in a product-driven environment
  • experience of server-side Scala or Java
  • experience with or interest in the Hadoop stack
  • practical experience or eager to learn machine learning and information retrieval
  • experience with distributed systems
  • experience of building for performance and tackling performance issues
  • knowledge and experience of monitoring tools
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related field
  • English at a communicative level.

You'll get bonus points if:

  • you have experience with Elasticsearch, Apache Solr or Lucene
  • you contributed to community projects (Akka)
  • you have experience of building on AWS or Azure
  • you're fluent in the Queen's speech.
