Senior Java Engineer

As a Senior Java Engineer at MeStudent you are one of our most powerful engineers. You write the kind of Java code James Gosling wouldn’t be ashamed of and you are one of the decisive people when it comes to architecture.



What you’ll do:

  • work with an international team on building our innovative search platform that will be seen and used by hundreds of users everyday
  • write robust, clean, portable, and well-documented code
  • design and architect components with focus on performance and scalability of distributed services and systems and underlying search engine(s)
  • ensure high availability of the platforms through systems and infrastructure engineering
  • implement advanced search features such as language detection, spell check, auto suggest/correct and more
  • partner with product managers to refine and prioritize requirements, estimate and set the work scope and time releases.

What we're expecting:

  • extensive experience of server-side Java
  • extensive experience of building web apps in a product-driven environment
  • experience of building for performance and tackling performance issues
  • experience with distributed systems
  • experience working in Scrum
  • senior-level knowledge of API design and development
  • proficient in relational database management systems (RDBMS) including MySQL or Postgres
  • basic understanding of AWS systems and services
  • BS in Computer Science or related field
  • English at a communicative level.

You'll get bonus points if:

  • you have an online portfolio
  • you have experience with Elastic search, Apache Solr or Lucene
  • you have experience with the Hadoop stack
  • you have practical experience of machine learning and information retrieval
  • you have knowledge and experience of orchestration (e.x. Kubernetes, Swarm)
  • you have knowledge and experience of monitoring tools (e.x. Prometheus)
  • MS in Computer Science or related field
  • you contributed to community projects
  • you’re fluent in the Queen’s speech.
